I know nothing about this kind of issue but Pep Boys is telling me that I need a new engine after they did a compression test and found that #3 has zero compression. They have already replaced wires, plugs, cap, dist, coil, module, ect....

Can anyone tell me something different than replacing the engine?

If I do have to replace the engine what should I expect to pay?

Thanks, I just feel like I might be getting ripped off by Pep Boys.....

Did someone pull the valve cover and rule out damaged valve train or cam issues? Zero compression could also mean that you have a valve stuck for some reason.

If rings are "gone" you will still have a lil compression, it'll bleed off.

You would have to have a REALLY bad valve either bent or held open due to improperly adjusted lifter or rocker arm or something like that ...

They could have a bad compression guage too I guess.

I guess the good news is that you have a bunch of new ignition components to go with your new engine. LOL

Id get a second opinion from a better source. Dealer maybe or get a compression kit and do it yourself. They are not that expensive

It depends why you have no compression and if you trust this place. Having zero in one and the rest are ok is a little wierd. It's worth going the second opinion route here...go to a gm dealer is my suggestion.

If you need a new motor get a rebuilt one thru gm...they're not a bad price; don't bother getting your's rebuilt.

I'd check to make sure a valve(s) isn't stuck open before anything else.
