Hi fellas, first post here:) I just purchased a 2006 Tahoe Z71 2wd from a local dealership. I've had it for week so far and love it!!

I am in the process of buying a Double Din but had a few questions:

Will I need an install kit?
I'm sure I'll need an adapter to maintain my factory Bose Speakers & Steering Controls? If so which brand/ model do you recommend?
Will the Double Din make the Bose speakers sound better than the Factory HU?

Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to chatting with you guys!!!

i cant say too much cause i only had my truck for a month before i ended up in a wall, but in that month i found i hate bose, lol

the wire kit is expensive as **** (mine was a gmos-04, i think metra? but its 130 from best buy) and i had a lot of noise from the bose amp

and you will need to buy a kit for it, any kit that best buy has will work with ease

Thanks for the response. I have been reading on here for about an hour on the subject. Seems quite a few members have noise problems from this install:( Wish that weren't the case.

The gmos-04 is a little pricey but I really want a DD since I had one in my previous vehicle.

I also noticed that some members say you dont need a kit and others say its required.

I just want to make sure I have everything correct prior to ordering since I will be purchasing all the parts online.

Thanks again for your help:)

i think you need a kit with bose, but i'm not 100%

without it you can hardwire everything, but its just easier with a kit, if you run into noise issues run a lineout on the headunit and youre preouts wont run on high power (4-5) and i believe it should fix that problem, didnt have time to do that before i broke my truck

imo from experience i would run new door speakers with brand new wires from the door to the head unit, the boss bypass module is to expensive and not worth it bro at all

Shit I was almost ready to purchase the bose/ onstar adapter :) Besides the outrageous price what do you not like about it?

Thanks for the reply man

I'd recommend the pac-audio Bose adapter over the gmos version, IMO

Less noise, also you can keep the door chime.

Either one , just so you know, you loose the ability to fade the rear channels.

I was looking at the PAC version and had installed the PACTR7 in my last vehicle with an Alpine DD so I could watch videos while driving. Never had a single problem with it. The GMOS description says it retains the factory door chimes and you can also adjust the volume. Is this true?

So basically everyone that has installed the PAC and GMOS versions experience some noise? If so how bad is it?

To be honest this is kinda turning me off from installing a double din:(

I had a slight hiss with the gmos, none with the pac unit.

It may vary car to car, though

its not just the DD that has noise, mines a single, but i'm gonna end up running new speakers for sure,

and the gmos keeps the chimes, its just very faint unless you start messing with the volume of them

if you got the DD, install it, i'm sure you'll like the features more than the single, but if you're gonna end up doing new speakers it might just be easier to hard wire the thing and lose the chimes and it'll prob be a hell of a lot cheaper
