Thanks for all the info guys. At this point I'm gonna go ahead and get the Gmos so I can keep all the factory options and also a steering wheel control adapter. I'm gonna hope that I don't have noise issues. I think the factory Bose system sounds great as it is but just would like the added features of a Double Din.

Will the Double Din make the factory Bose speakers sound better?

Here is what you need

Hi fellas, first post here:) I just purchased a 2006 Tahoe Z71 2wd from a local dealership. I've had it for week so far and love it!!

I am in the process of buying a Double Din but had a few questions:

Will I need an install kit?
I'm sure I'll need an adapter to maintain my factory Bose Speakers & Steering Controls? If so which brand/ model do you recommend?
Will the Double Din make the Bose speakers sound better than the Factory HU?

Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to chatting with you guys!!!

-Matt

I would recommend an Alpine 505W Double Din Stereo, a wiring harness a Pac or Scorce. The Pac is a little touchy. You will need a pac 7 bypass so you can watch DVD's while driving. The steering wheel controller is also a PAC which you need to find the right wire underneath the steering wheel console then program the to your steering wheel buttons. You may need a P1 Navigation unit which is very easy to install in the 505W. Depeends on your opening on the tahoe you may need an install kit. What I did is I installed a single DIN where the 6 disc change is on the lower end of the dash with an alpine DVD 7 in ch flip up and I installed an Alpine YV where I mounted in the Double Din so I had two screens in the front, you can watch movies on both screens or you can watch one movie on the upper Alpine and have the navigation going on the lower Alpine. I have a 19 inch Flip Down TV in the back custom mounted because I have a moon roof and I needed to make braces around the moon roof to mount the TV too. Everything listed above will run possible 1900 with the 19 inch Flip Down. 1500 with two TV's in the front and about $1100 with the alpine 505W in the Double DIN Slot, Pac 7 by pass, wiring harness, steering wheel controls, and an extra 250 if you want navigation which would change the prices on all the above by 250. Feel free to write back if you have any questions??

Thanks for the response. I have been reading on here for about an hour on the subject. Seems quite a few members have noise problems from this install:( Wish that weren't the case.

The gmos-04 is a little pricey but I really want a DD since I had one in my previous vehicle.

I also noticed that some members say you dont need a kit and others say its required.

I just want to make sure I have everything correct prior to ordering since I will be purchasing all the parts online.

Thanks again for your help:)

If your has a bose factory amplifier you will need the gmos04 or equivilent. If you dont have a factory amp you just need a a regular cheaper wiring harness.

If you do get the Gmos04 you get noise from this is terible. I owned two of them. One I smoked it because its so damn touchy then I went I bought a Scorce GM that retains the chimes, ONstar and everything else.

Thanks for taking the time to reply:)
My last DD was the Alpine 505 and I really liked it. Not sure if I will be purchasing another one because there are so many more options with more capabilities.

The set-up you have sounds great but with my budget right now I just want a double Din and a nice set of rims.

Could you describe the noise that the gmos04 makes?

I will most likely be getting the gmos04 and Axxess ASWC and if the noise is irritating I will just return it and go another route.

Also will I need the GM antenna plug for the DD install?

Thanks for the help, Matt

Ordered a Kenwood DDX719, Gmos04, Axxess ASWC, and Dash Kit.

Hopefully it all works out :)

If youre having noise problems its a result of a poor headunit. I had noise with my old single din before I upgraded to a double. My old headunit had 2volt preamps and my new one 4volt and that made the difference. I have the metra GMOS4 thingy. On my 2nd one right now and its been working fine. I think the original one went bad when I swapped headunits. Anyways, the unit has an adjustable gain and chime volume. If you have low preamp voltages youll have to turn the gain up really high which will induce noise. With mine how it is now I can notice a little noise, with no music playing, when im stopped. Once i get above 5mph I cant hear it over other noises. BUT, i have my gain higher than I should. I could turn the gain down for less noise, but then i would have to turn my headunit volume up higher to get the same volume level. I chose to keep it so I only have to turn my headunti to 12-15 out of 40 since my headunti doesnt have a volume knob and i dont like pressing a button 25times to listen to music.
Somebody said that you lose the ability to fade F/R and I find that interesting because originally I could not fade front rear but yesterday I tried it again and it works. Ill chalk that one up to gremlins.

Thanks for the info! I just got in all of my parts for my DD install:) Gonna wait til my rear back up camera comes in (ordered separately) before I install everything.
I noticed the adjustments on the the GMOS and figured I could fine tune them if I get any noise issues. I went with the Kenwood DDX719 Double Din so hopefully the preamps are the 4Volt.

Thanks, Matt

see i have to disagree with this statement

first off the gmos04 manual states that a high preout voltage can and most likely will cause noise issues or distortion, idr the exact wording

and aside from that, my single din pioneer has 4v preouts, and i ran into a niose issue with a whining sound

i think it goes from vehicle to vehicle on condition of the bose amp maybe? hard to say but i disagree with your statement good sir

Got everything installed yesterday. I also ordered a CMOS-200 Backup Camera which I did not get to finish installing:( Will get around to it within the next few days..

I am very happy to report, No noise issues with the GMOS :) However I did not tune the gain/ potentiometer which I might have to. I can crank the volume up all the way and it is loud but with the factory head unit I could turn the volume up about 3/4 of the way and it be just as loud.

Should I adjust /turn up the gain on the GMOS?

once you start messing with that potentiometer the noise will start coming im sure

i would say maybe mark where its at now, and then crank it little by little til you get noise, or if you dont like where it ends up at least you can turn it back to where it was where you know it works

i had the same issue, i just turned it just far enough to max my volume at a level that was just above where i normally listen to just in case a song is quieter than others, or i wanna bump, ya know?
