I'm guessing you are referring to the serpentine belt and AC belt?

If so, find the belt tensioner for both belts. The serp belt tensioner should be in the top left corner when looking at the engine and the AC belt tensioner is the smallest of the 3 pulleys on the bottom. FYI - get something like a concrete block to stand on and you can reach everything from up top.

Keep in mind, I have Efans on my 2005, so it makes it a bit easier to reach around and you will also have to work the belt around the fan shaft coming out and going in.

For the serp belt tensioner, I believe you need a 15mm socket and ratchet. The belt diagram on the engine shroud has an arrow that tells you which way to rotate the tensioner to loosen. Put the socket on and using your left hand, turn the tensioner clockwise (IIRC) to take tension off of the belt. I generally pull the belt off the alternator first. Once the belt comes off the alternator, you can release the tensioner and wiggle the belt out.

Once the serp belt is off, you can remove the AC belt. There should be a square hole in the front of the tensioner that takes a 3/8 ratchet I use my right hand to release tension and start with removing the belt from the compressor pulley. This one should come right off.

To put new belts on, just reverse the order. The AC belt is easiest to put on the crank pully and tensioner and then release tension and slide over compressor pulley. On the serp belt, I route the whole belt and release tension and slide over the alternator pulley last. Make sure you follow the correct engine diagram and double check your routing before starting your truck. The belt should really only fit on there one way though.

It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so your first time. After the first time, it's a 10 minute project (with efans anyways).

PS - there are two lines on mine that run into the radiator and when you rotate the AC belt tensioner, you have to be careful not to push too ******* those lines. On mine, the tensioner will go well past where it starts to push against these lines.

Hope this helps! Probably sounds more complicated than it really is.

Is there any way to do it without taking the air intake ductwork off? THe big plastic resevoir or chamber was in the way, and had to take it off. What's with all the large air chambers in the duct? Is it for some sort of resonance? Does everyone have those chambers?

The chambers are actually baffles to quiet the intake. they`re easy to remove and there is lots of room without it in there to change the belts, even more so if you have an 05 or newer with electric fans.
