As said before; you have a problem and the fans will only mask the issue at best. If you are low on money, why not diagnose the problem, rather than throwing your money at MAF cleaner and electric fans, only to still have the problem?

I'm not getting e-fans just yet, just wanted to know what the big deal was with them. And thought they might help with my mileage. MAF cleaner is like $7.00, so I'd rather try that first before wasting a day on a shop.

I am starting to think it's the A/C compressor, though. I noticed it a lot today, and it's sunny and warm so it kept coming on off. Throttle was lagging if it kicked on, too.

I have the same issue in my 02 tahoe Z71.When compressor kicks on RPMs dip to the point of almost stalling at idle. There was plenty of stress on the tensioner and when I would rev the engine the belt would start slapping. I purchased reman compressor, dryer, tube and oil from an ebay seller for $188 shipped and being installed tomorrow.

My issue disappeared with the cleaning of the MAF and TB. I like the $7 fix.

After having my fans for the weekend, I can tell you mileage did go up but only maybe 1-2 mpg. Was it cost effective to switch to efans? Yes. For me anyway. My fan clutch was already on the way out, I got a really good deal on the fans, the tune helped much more than just getting pins turned on, I thought I needed a new ac comp.

After talking with Justin, while getting tune done, he suggested I clean the maf and tb. I did this at the same time I installed my fans so it made it super easy. Now I don't get as much of a dip in rpm when my ac kicks on, I mean I still feel it but that will always be the case. My ac was colder this weekend than it has been in years! So weighing the cost of new fan clutch, probable wasted money on ac repairs, it was a good deal for me. Is it for every one? To each their own I suppose.

e fans can run be set to turn on sooner to keep your temps down. in heavy traffic they can keep your truck cool because they can run at high speeds unlike the (garbage) clutch fan.

if your truck only stalls when the a/c is on its not the clutch fan thats causing it to stall. your compressor clutch is probably shot so when your a/c kicks on its not engaging properly which is causing your rpm's to drop/stall

What are pins? Also, when you guys say not an e-fan, you're talking about a belt driven fan? I thought they all had electric fans.....

older trucks had fan clutches. it was a fan with a heating element that was used to cool the vehicle. the pins refer to the pin wire locations on the ecm that control the electric fans. the older trucks have an empty pin that when turned on by a tune or reprogram will be activated and usable with electric fans

You're stalling problem is from a dirty throttle body, you need to clean that and if your truck is an 03 or older you need to get the PCM program updated at the dealer because it has a correction for low idle and a few other little things as well.
