Thanks! Yeah he's a good helper. Lacks focus sometimes though haha.

I got the headliner almost out tonight. I need to figure out how to remove the rear seat belts from the top and then it should come down easily. Man this thing feels quite cheesy and brittle though. Hope my guy can work some magic on it. I wonder if there's any kind of coating that could be easily applied to give it some more strength. At least now I've gotten intimate with every damn interior panel in this thing. I'll be ordering a few replacements.

Small overdue update (unfortunately no pictures):

Got the headliner back and immediately dicked it up when I was putting it back in. The spare tire in my truck is in the back, not underneath. I took it out to remove some of the panels and to generally make the headliner removal/install easier. I had no idea that the top of the spare tire carrier bar had some rubber/tar substance on it presumably for vibration resistance. I didn’t even notice the substance when I took the liner out. When I went to put the freshly upholstered liner back in it rubbed on the spare carrier and got this tar crap ALL OVER it.

I was so pissed when it happen. It wasn’t a small spot, the entire left edge of the liner was covered in this crap and it had also dripped onto the carpet and on top of my left side seats. It was over 100 degrees when I was putting the liner in so the tar stuff was pretty soft. I was so mad I almost wanted to delete this thread!!!

Anyway, my upholstery guy is going to make some coverings for the sides. He’s going to do it in a way that will just look like a custom headliner job. What’s another Benjamin and probably a week’s downtime right?

Damnnn.... That sucks dick man for real. I have done some small stuff like that, but nothing that big. I know how pissed I was at the time so I'm sorry this happened to you! Hopefully everything turns out well and good luck! :smokin:

My friend that does upholstery came through yesterday. Got the headliner all buttoned up this morning. Looks really good in my opinion. Note the required custom job on the sides to cover where the nasty tar crap was. I'm going to get some dye for all the interior panels and get them a darker grey color eventually. I'm pretty stoked that I got this done, it was definitely worth the time and money. I'll be working on my audio stuff for a little while (another thread exists) but next up is most likely the vinyl carpet.

how did he do the black on the outsides?

He wrapped some sort of flexible board with the black then adhered it to headliner over the existing material. I don't know the details but I know the black that he wrapped it with is the same foam backed cloth that the base is done with. I'm assuming he used the same glue for the add-ons as he did the base. I didn't ask details but I can if you are interested.

EDIT: I also had him eliminate the holes for the grab handles and rear hooks. I basically just told him all I wanted holes for was the visor mounts, roof console, dome lights, and rear seat belts. I thought it would make for a cleaner look especially considering how dated all that crap looked.
