Electric Fans

I'm looking into electric fans... these have seemed to have caught my eye

it says you only need to hook up 3 wires.
1- power
2- ground
3- a/c clutch switch

i understand how to hook the wires up, but my air conditioning does not work (leaks and clutch will not engage). would this affect how the fans operate if the clutch does not engage?

No, basically it's a signal wire to turn on when your AC is on ... If you never turn it on don't hook it up.

how do the fans know when to turn on and off then if there set at, lets say, 190 degrees? just wondering cuz i think this is gonna be the next upgrade after the volant intake. but i would like to understand how they work first.

can be installed with a cut-off switch if you wheel your rig to prevent damage in deep water.

The Perma Cool fan package has a temp sensor fastened to the inside of it's frame that senses the temp from the radiator. It has trim pots that you set for on/off temps plus some safety over rides as well. The relays are also built in.

They also have an extra wire connection for manual operation if needed.

That cool-pack looks like a nice set-up. Plus, 3 wire hook up, you cant beat that.
Thats similar to the e-fans I had on my previous truck, I beleive that was a 3 wire hook up to.
Thats what I like, simple installations.

i just got the cool pack fan unit from summit. part prm 19515 and i tried to install it but it does not fit. just i would let everyone know. the unit has holes and slots that seem to fit correctly but when you put it in the whole shroud is shaped wrong and does not fit. they agreed to take it back but i have to ship it to them at my cost, then they will reimburse me. i contacted perma-cool by e-maill but got no response. the way the fans didn't fit i figure maybe the wrong part was in the box but the part itself had the right number so i don't know. i suppose the fan could have been for another car and was labeled wrong. anyway, watch out cause this thing costs 500 bucks.

That's the one for the big block radiator 34"x19", yours is probably the 34"x17", or 28"x17". Depending on how much it costs to ship back I would just throw in the big block radiator and call it good.

I've got roughly $170 in mine with the fans being the biggest part of that, would be much cheaper if you can find a used set.
