Engine boggs @3500 after sparkplug replacement gapped at .045

That's not a bog! That's the drive-by-wire controlling the revving. Glad it was nothing, but at least you have a solid tune-up now.

But it is possible to gap iridium plugs with the $2 gap measure tool from Wally world(walmart).

And I'm definitely getting more power above 3000 rpms with the gap at .045.

I am amazed at how smooth a 17 year old truck can run when taken care of.

.060 is what my burb stock gap is meant to be. All I know is this gap is highly recommended in the 8.1 community. Not sure how it affects 5.3 or 6.0 of the same years.

I suggest trying. Also If I did it again I'd go with ac delco 41-110.(I think that's the right one) as they are iridium and pre-gapped at .045

41-110 comes with a .040" gap as did the older 41-985.

I reckon every engine is different Mark. My Buicks were sensitive to it and just a few thousands off would not run right.
