Went to turn the truck on this morning. Everything went well, let it warm up like usual. Walked out to move the wife car. Walked back to my truck and boom it cut off. Never happened before.
I go in to turn it back on and its just cranking....but won't turn back on. I can smell the gas so I doubt its the fuel pump. It's probably not the starter because its turning over fast, the lights are still on so I doubt its the battery?
What could it be. This happen to my cousin on his sierra but because someone did a bad job when they changed out his fuse box. Some wires didn't make a good connection.
I've done nothing close to that.

Any trouble shooting I can try? I will do the alternator test tooday by removing the negative wire if I can jump start it.

Check fuses inside and in the engine compartment

also maybe the crank position sensor if we have one? havent had that problem on my chevy but had 5 ford powerstrokes and that is the culprit most the time with those. do we have a crank position sensor (cps) or cam position sensor on these trucks?

Yes we do have a crank position sensor
First check for spark and fuel press, go from there

I checked the fuses and they are good. I pulled off a sparkplug wire and held it close while someone cranked the engine and no spark. Tried putting it infront of some metal for ground and also no spark.
Next step?

Coil to distributor or distributor to coil?

Do I need to remove the air filter and leave the TBI exposed while I crank the engine? Coil sits underneath so I'm not sure how else to get to it
