So my engine started knocking last night, 350 TBI, i'm wondering everyones opinions on what to do, the 350 had plenty of power but i'm looking for a little more. what would be best? rebuild my 350 so i know it's a good strong motor or think about dropping in a different motor, or even the same 350? money isn't readily available or i would just get a monster 454...so with that being said, what is everyones opinions for budget and performance?

Make it a 383 stroker. Isn't that expensive.

x2 That is what I am planning to do this summer. Im going to buy a 5.7 from a pull-it yard and rebuild it as a 383 for when mine kicks the bucket. Im at 198,000 miles and it time for me to start thinking about a replacement.

What exactly is knocking? Can't or don't want to fix it?

The gm ht383e for our suv is. A cool $4700+ at jegs or summit. But a drop-in 340hp/435 ft-lbs engine is very tempting. Especially when it is all new parts.

Pull off plug wire at a time to see if knocking stops. If so just maybe do that specific rod bearing.

If it's a TBI a Vortec long block swap will work but you'll need some other parts to make it work. I would rethink the rebuild, your 95 block will be drilled and tapped for a roller cam and it will have the internal cooling bypass provisions. That's the best of both worlds if you ask me ... Your local machine shop probably has one ready to go ... Grab that, grab a rebuild kit and build it over a weekend then swap it.

change of plans, I will be buying an economical car and getting around in that so that I don't have to rush getting my truck back on the road...so with that being said, I want to put a diesel in it because I'm trying to make it a towing truck...I was thinking getting a cummins, different transmission, different gears in the differential, lift kit, rims and tires....ideas?
