Engine light 2006 Yukon XL

Does engine light come on when it's time to change oil ? I seen the change oil then 2 days later engine light came on .. But I know in Minnesota artic strange things happen in the cold . Looking at -18f for tomorrow night .

Mine doesn't, I don't think. Did you try just clearing your oil life display? I think it's all manual and doesn't do anything to check the oil life. Did you put an OBC on and look to see if there are any codes?

I don't remember oil life reading setting off a Service Engine Light on any of my GM vehicles that had oil life monitoring. I would get a message on the dash, but that is about it.

I will put my adapter on today and see what code it is thanks for the replys . I will keep you posted. It did it at a intersection low idle going around a corner.

unless the light is flashing then it's usually just a smog (epa) related issue.

You are right. There isnt a oil life sensor in our pans. I know Cadilac cars had that sensor. The cluster display message for oil life is just triggered by a timer/mileage counter within the display.

The oil life monitor will not trigger the MIL. That will be triggered by a PCM code.

it actually uses an algorithm that takes hot and cold starts, short trips long trips, etc, into it. Its not linear.

Not since I got out of the biz professionally. With that said, Ive never followed the oil life monitor. It was always way too long for my liking.
