Hi guys, I have a 94 Yukon with a factory 5 speed. I was considering some engine performance mods for the stock 350 tbi. my question is, what should I do? swap for a big block, swap out top end for vortec heads or swap out for a 6.0 or even another 350? What would the benefits be for a big block swap? Any ideas?

Ls1 imo...
Could build a 383 but would need to do more thwn just engine. Fuel will need to be adjusted aswell, ecu needs to be tuned, trans may or may not hold the power. Lots to consider

LOL This is why you don't listen to what's his face's up there.

He makes it sound like an LS1 will drop right in with no mods. You will need the same amount of mods for an LS based power plant as you will for a rebuild 383 or even a Vortec top end. It would be considerably less work if you stick with a std old school block.

I did the Vortec top end and love it, for the amt of work involved it's worth the effort.

I like the vortec head swap, my only concern was doing this to a motor with 120k on it. What's your opinion on a 454 swap?

120K is nothing, I did my Vortec head swap when the bottom end had over 200K.

454 swaps are nice but the factory 454s weren't anything special.

Is the 6.0 a tough swap? Will it mate up to my 5-speed? I'm not really concerned about the electrical side of it. I just don't want any heavy modification or fab.

6.0 swap is the same as an LS swap, I doubt it will mount up to your 5speed without special parts as those trannys weren't offered behind that. Honestly I doubt that tranny will hold up behind a 6.0 anyways, ditch it and get the tranny that sat behind the 6.0 in the donor vehicle.

yess the trans will bolt right up to that 6.0! "i doubt" means "i dont know".

I do know. it will.
4L60 is bolted to 6.0's, its also bolted to OLD legacy block 4.3's. whats that tell you.
Tells ya any trans that bolts to a legacy block bolts to a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0.
We have a Turbo 400 bolted to a 6.0 in our Race car. same bolt pattern as that 5 speed.

Do a 6.0 swap, spend the $$ for the plug n play kits. you WILL Love it! insanely easy power and dirt cheap. Find 6.0's in EVERY HD work van (aka Fleet van), for pennys. buy a rear end wrecked fleet van and gut that pos. resell everything you dont need to do the swap to help cover PNP kits.

**** a legacy block! they are POS vs todays tech.
By the time you mod out a pos TBI 350 to even equal the power of a STOCK 5.3 you could have bought the PNP kits.
Dont waste time on that old sheet.

Even better. ditch the 94 for newer model with a 5.3 and then do the 6.0 swap IF you still want more power after a few bolt on's.
