I had one be the transmission heat shield, then a cat heat shield, another time it was a firewall heat shield that one was tricky because it would only do it under a load.
so
I would look CLOSELY at any and all heatshields and re-torque any you can get to just for good measure
also inspect and hit the entire exhaust system all the way to the tail pipe, check the hangers, grab the tail pipe and try to wiggle it or bang on the end and see if you can get the sound
i said screw a mallet and used a hammer to find the cat one, also the cat could be broken inside if you cant find any other source you might try pulling a 02 sensor and stick a camera in the hole and look for broken honeycombs.
and just for good measure check the flywheel
if you can get a video of the noise and post it to youtube then link it here we might have a better idea of what it could be

one time I had a loose bumper bolt and that took 3yrs to find, bumped into the bumper just right one day and heard the noise otherwise might have never figured it out

I had a similar situation recently, and believe it or not, it ended up being one of the plastic covers on the doors that always come loose. Just bought some epoxy and all fixed.
