I have a 03 yukon xl and my voltage gauge fluctuates from 14+ to 12-. Periodically needing a jump start due to battery being low. Anyone else have had this experience and what is the cause? Had battery tested and all is good. Original owner and can't recall ever replacing alternator. Could it be time to do so?

I just had the same thing happen to my '03 Denali. It just started last night. At the same time a message "service brake system" appears???
I changed the alternator thinking that it was Bad and it was ok until I pulled in the parking lot to get my core charge back. That is where it stalled.
I hope someone can help with this because I am out of ideas.

How was the battery tested? Just because it shows 12v doesnt mean its good. Pull the alternator and have it tested too. Check your cables for tightness, make sure the alternator cable is tight and the plug on the back is too. Takes 10 minutes for a first timer and if it ends up being bad, time saved by already having the core in your hand. If you do in fact need a new alternator, might as well grab the 145 amp upgrade and a longer belt...The new belt will need to be about 1 inch longer to accommodate the bigger case alternator. Well worth the couple extra bucks.
