The forward two don't hang any lower than the stock plastic piece. The area that headers or the stock exhaust drops from the engine bay is in the area of the trans pan which is still exposed because it's not a low point. I think you're good unless you have some sort of X or H pipe hugging the transfer case. Anyone with a Z71 have these plates already.

Quick question on the install....should the holes already be tapped/threaded? I only started looking at the one for the transfer case and the bolts didn't thread right in. I didn't see any threads in the bolt locations either. Do i just bolt them in and they make their own threads?

I know i have one on the front plastic cover that is probably stripped by the dealer when they were working on something.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Finally ordered the GM factory skid plate kit. Got it from ThePartsTruck.com for $187. It shipped without the 12x bolts required, but they shipped them to me immediately at no cost.

Skid Plate Kit is GM # 23176881
Extra bolts are GM #1158341 (if you need them).

Very easy install, factory plastic cover comes off with 6x of the same bolts. New kit requires 8x for the front 2 skids and 4x for the transfer case skid plate.

All that is left for me now is to either trim down this awful air deflector or buck up and get the PPV Tahoe unit :)

This is great, thanks for posting. When I search on part number 23176881 I only get a single plate, not a full kit. Do you know of any other part numbers? Thanks

You will need some extra bolts switching to the metal plates from plastic will require 2 or 4 additional bolts (don't remember exactly at the moment if it was just 2 or 3), the transfer case plate will come with 3 but could use a 4th, the bolts are self taping the holes that have not been used will need self taping bolts

**those part numbers will fit even if it says they won't, unless maybe you have 2wd only

I found mine used for about $30 each, no sense in buying new ones there just going underneath the truck unless you are going get under there and makeout or something.

That part # is the full kit- both aluminum front plates and the small black t-case shield. It should come with the new bolts, if not you will need to use the other part # I listed to order them.

Stupid question, did you remove the metal braces that were under the plastic skid plate (rear plate). I finally got around to installing mine and cannot see how that second plate could fit flush without removing them completely
