Question for you guys talking about riding your brakes on mountain passes, this is something i remember from 20 years ago and may not be the same with new vehicles, but to take some strain off riding your brakes and cooking the rotors, cant you put the vehicle in 3 instead of drive and set cruise control and let the transmission and engine slow you down? Just thinking free vs warped rotors.

I'm surprised to find there are issues with the door lock actuators. The ONLY trouble we've had with power door locks on any of our vehicles was just recently on our '02 GMC 2500HD. The driver's door would lock when you put the vehicle in gear, but not unlock when you put it in park, or tried to unlock it with the switch on the door.

For troubleshooting, I started with the relays, and simply re-seating the driver's side relay restored the unlocking capability. And yes, it's a real PITA when it doesn't function properly!!

I thought the same thing. I'd drop it into M and downshift before I road brakes all the way down a steep long hill. Great way to cook a set of rotors for sure.

Door lock actuators are a common failure point on NNBS Tahoes/Suburbans/Yukons, etc. They seem to have low-torque motors that basically burn out. I've had to replace two of them in the past 6 months.

This. It's what the big rigs do!

I also read somewhere it's actually easier on gas, something about the lifters and the injectors shutting off...? If anyone can chime in on that.

When we went to TN, I put mine in tow mode and dropped in it 3rd. I have drilled and slotted rotors and 24's so I was not trying to ride the brakes 30 mins down the moutain.

As far as the door actuators go, mine lock and unlock fine, but half the time, they do not teigger the interior lights to come on, which is a major inconvenience.
