Folks:

Two weeks ago bought a 2008 Denali XL on a killer deal. Just wonder a few things:

1) Does this SUV have the fuel management system? It is, of course, the 6.2L being the Yukon Denali.
2) Since there is NO control for 2X4 vs. 4X4, is it always in 4X4 or does it go in and out as needed? I took it off road on a steep hill when buying and noticed at the first sign of rear slip, it slightly surged and all wheels had traction. Just don't know how that really works nor to know when it is in 4X4 if it goes automatically in and out.
3) Can you run separate audio up front while the kiddos have a movie going in the back? It has navi and DVD, not aftermarket.

Thanks for your responses in advance!

To the best of my knowledge:

1. the 6.2 regular Denali has a fuel management system, I would presume the XL would have it also ... a quick call to any GMC dealership/salesman or a call to GM customer service will yield a conclusive answer.

2. AWD is always on AWD, it doesn't shift back and forth from 2wd and 4wd ... the automatic setting on 4wd trucks does that. Although it uses more fuel AWD is known to be a better system than an auto 2wd/4wd.

3. Dunno, don't have kids so the plastic see through protective sticker is still stuck to my rear seat entertainment system from the factory. I'm sure many members use it though and will advise you accordingly.

There's also another easy way to find out if you have fual managment ...

If you scroll through your dic (driver information center) one of the readouts past miles/mpg/miles to empty/etc, should you have the FMS, is a display that shows if the truck is in 4 or 8 cyl mode as you're driving.

If it doesn't have that feature as part of your scroll menu chances are your truck doesn't have it. Tbh, I can't see why they would put it in a 6.2, option/weight heavy, long wheelbase, awd model such as yours ... there would be almost no opportunity for it to run on 4cyl.

awd is not nessecarly 4wd at all times. Not sure about our trucks but some others, Like the Equinox is awd, but really its Mostly in Fwd, then when slip is detected, the pcm will send a signal to lock the rear diff. Realtime awd is always 4wd no matter what.

Ian, I'm pretty sure the Denali is a full time AWD system.

The main difference between a FT AWD and a 4/2WD Auto system is the the AWD is able to run on 4WD on dry/non slippery ground, wheres if you set a 4WD truck manually on 4WD on dry roads it will strain the differentials and kill the system rather quickly.

soulsea: Scrolled through and nada. So I'm guessing it does NOT have FMS. I've noticed we can get high teens on the freeway if we drive right. City mileage is what makes the Saudi's happy. WOW. Thanks for your comments.

Yup, I really doesn't make sense that it would given how little it would be engaged ... but it won't hurt to fire a quick call to GM CS to be sure.

Btw, another difference between AWD and Auto 4/2WD is that although the AWD has better overall traction over all road conditions it does no offer the 4WD Low setting. Basically completely different system for different uses ... AWD for overall better traction, 4WD/2WD Auto most of the time is in 2WD and 4WD is available when needed.

1) I don't think any of the 6.2l have it
2) If the Denali you bought was AWD, then it's full time AWD. They also have 2WD versions.
3) I don't think so, but if you give your kids headphones you have no problems
