Hi, yesterday I had my first oil change at the GM dealership and I asked them to take a look underneath and let me know what they find.

2000 Chevy Suburban LT around 185,000 miles.

I know there will be issues to address. What are your thoughts on the following?

1. 2 manifold bolts broken.

2. Some brake line rusting.

3. Small leak from water pump.

4. Oil drain plug starting to round.

5. Oil pan gasket leaking

6. Front brake rotors rusted and grooved.

7. Sway bar bushings have play.

8. Possible RF hub has play.

Thanks

Sounds about right, prioritize and knock it out. If you have any will to do it yourself these are all easy pickings...brake line being the toughest probably. Do the brake line, hub, rotors, water pump first. I would also have another inspection done for a second opinion plus drive it, look at it and make your own list. Feels good to take a vehicle with some miles, re-hab it and make it rock solid reliable. Don't forget that list doesn't include maintenance like plugs, wires, fuel filter, fluids, etc.

My next step is to take it to my regular mechanic for a closer look. I am fortunate that my local auto parts store gives me parts at a discounted rate. So, even if I have a mechanic do the work I will buy the parts separately.

Does your mechanic allow you do bring parts? That's kind of rare.

It's all who you know. :) They work on the local fire department that I dispatch for. They get the parts from the same place I get them from.

Doesn't sound too bad. The manifold bolts could be a PITA though.

Sounds about right for the mileage, a few places make SS brake lines for these trucks

This......
But I have to ask about #4, why not just replace it then so, I don't know, to make sure you could get it off next time?

I have no idea why the dealership did not replace it. You would think they would. I will definitely be doing that.

1. 2 manifold bolts broken.

Common and expected. There are clamps that seem to get positive reviews and are a much easier solution than trying to drill out the broken bolts.

2. Some brake line rusting.

Common and expected. Get stainless replacements if available.

3. Small leak from water pump.

Expected at this mileage. Pumps are super easy to change on these things.

4. Oil drain plug starting to round.

Expected at this mileage. But, yeah, why didn't they just throw one on there while they had it out and the oil drained? It's a $2 part. Well, maybe $13.98 at a stealership.

5. Oil pan gasket leaking

Expected at this mileage. A bit tedious to replace, but not a priority unless it's pouring oil and/or leaving puddles and that that bothers you.

6. Front brake rotors rusted and grooved.

What's "rust"? lol Regardless, grooved rotors are damaged brakes and damaged brakes are less-than-optimal and less-than-optimal brakes can be dangerous. You don't wanna find out in an emergency stop that your brakes need attention.

7. Sway bar bushings have play.

Common and expected, but cheap and easy fix. I suggest upgrading to polyurethane as this will improve the sway bar's effectiveness while not decreasing ride quality.

8. Possible RF hub has play.

Expected at this mileage. Not difficult to replace if you have an impact gun and the skill level of performing your own brake jobs.
