My 1999 Yukon has been sitting up for about a year. I was getting ready to put it back on the road. unfortunately a Flash flood and dead battery got me(couldn't move it quick enough). I think im ok with everything except the engine. I assumed that the water level (profile pic) would not ********* the engine. I was wrong. Got a new battery and before cranking checked the oil. I got nothing but water droplets on the dip stick. I assumed when the water came into the engine it maybe pushed the oil out since I was seeing nothing on the dipstick except water droplets. Added 1 gallon of oil expecting to see oil on dip stick. Again all I get is water droplets on dip slick. Have I pushed water further up into the engine? My plan is to do about 2 or 3 oil changes prior to cranking the engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

take all the plugs out
drain the oil into a bucket and inspect what you get. if it's mostly oil, all is good.

refill motor with oil and drain again. you can re-use this oil by skimming the water free oil off. use cheap shit anyways.

do a few times. this will help remove all the moisture from the motor.

finally, refill the motor with oil. leave the plugs out, and just turn over the engine. let any water in the cylinders blow out. use a vacuum with a small hose attachment and vacuum out the cylinders as well.

then try to start her up. good luck. I've gotten water in the motor before. just make sure you don't hydrolock her

water is not compressible

if you have water in the cylinders and you try to crank the motor over...the water will not compress and that cylinder will typically fail. sometimes spectacularly. usually a rod out the side of the block, or cracked head

that's why it's so important to get all the water out before you put the plugs back in. odds are that if you got water in the oil, some may have gotten into a cylinder

at least four gallons of water came out when I pulled the drain plug. Got all the sparkplugs out. Should I drain tranny fluid also?

It can never hurt

Should also change the axle gear oil. The axle breather tubes are easy to flood.

A couple bucks now will prevent thousands later
