i put some ddm fogs in my boys truck yesterday and he's not really satisfied with the overall light output. he put 35watt 6000k's in.
he thinks its the shield that the light basically sits in and wants me to cut it off for him but will that actually give more might output?
he's looking the aspect of the high beam doesnt have a shield and maybe give more light

It'll probably throw more light up in on-coming faces, but shouldn't really effect over-all output much. I'd leave the shields alone. Fog lights are simply not designed to provide massive light output, but a shorter, wider, and close to the ground pattern directly in front of the vehicle. If he wants more over-all output of usable light, get HID's in a good projector in the headlights or buy some good driving lights and bolt them to the bumper or push bar.

Good info Scott! I got my kit a while back and the bulbs where too long to fit without cutting the shield off so I didnt put em in. Gonna have to see if theres a shorter bulb out there

I have the HIDS in my fog lights but i ride a z71 with the round ones :), it uses the 880 bulbs which literally fit with less then like 1CM left lol, tight fit.

Yup, those are a tight fit. That's what I'm running, too.

both my truck and his truck have 880's as well.
i have 35 watt 5000k fogs and 6000k 55watt lows.

he has 35watt 6000k lows and 6000k fogs and has s2000 projectors... maybe they suck but the shop said they were the best other than the bmw ones but they cost a lot more.
i just have depo's in my truck... maybe 55watt is what he wants more... but 55watt in the fogs i heard will melt some sh*t up

S2000's are one of the best projectors out there. Are those in the fogs?

Biggest limitation to fog lights other than the actual size and design is the positioning of them low on the truck. If you aim them too high you blind people, but that's the only way to get light out in front you as far as you'd like sometimes.

FWIW, I have 55w HID's in my Denali fogs and haven't had any melting issues. I did get water inside one housing which killed the bulb, though, so watch out for that.

I run 35w 8000k hids in all 3 spots. The fog housing is fine i have not noticed melting issues at all. I stay lower watts so i dont melt shit or get discoleration.
