So i went to a junk yard and found a rear differential unit with 3.73 gears in it.. I just found out i have 3.42 gears in my 4wd hoe. They want 450 for it and will go tomorrow in the morning to take a look at it.. The only thing i would have to do is switch my front gears to 3.73 and call it a day.. with this said, i can go ahead and order my bb tune with the left over money i have.. i did find a place that would do a custom for about 1300 or 1400 if i go with the tru-trac... or instead of getting the bb tune, i could order the tru-trac and have it installed before they it goes in if i buy the differential at the junk yard.. What do yall think on this one?

Also, good bearings and seals for it if i go with the one i found at the junk yard?

unknown at this time.
I f you are planning for really big tires then work the axle first otherwise you will have to re-tune for the tire size again. If you are going to stick with 285 or smaller stick with with the 3.73 add a lock if needed and deal with the front ASAP then tune. Get a install kit with timken bearings.

if you ever plan to run more than a 33" tire plan on 4.56 gears for 35" tires. Anything less will be a big strain on the tranny

change gears in what you have now...from 3.42 to 3.73, not a huge difference...

Its not gonna cost much more so if you plan on bigger than 33" or still wanna tow/haul just go to 4.10's. I dont see a 3.42 to 3.73 as being worth it.

Also I run 33s with the 3.42 gears and it does just fine for cruising and camping off the beaten path. I dont tow or haul much tho. And dont plan on going bigger.

Well see the housing on my original one was bent right were the bearings were on the right side... So it was causing fluid to flow through that... I think the whole problem was inside the gasket with the unlimited slip gears on it which was causing pressure in the gears from the axle shaft spinning and somewhere in there, the springs or spider gears were getting stuck so the problem would pop the seal and bearings out... Oh well I do wish to do all that extra but it ended being allot cheaper and I will put the 3.73 gears also from that other truck I found and have just enough left to get the bb tune... Unless I want to wait and do a 4 hour drive up to Dallas and have someone personally do the tune from bb tune since they will be up there on Oct 15

you need to take the cover off first to check for metal pieces
before you buy it.
