Follow this procedure.
The only thing I do that he doesn't, is when you take out the plug for the water drain - leave it out. Then as you're removing the filter housing, the fuel will start draining out the hole for the water drain once the housing is loose enough. This keeps the amount of diesel draining down the sides of the housing to a minimum.

I change mine about every third oil change.. It's not hard to do but every time I've done it so far, the filter doesn't look dirty that's for sure.. Probably could go much longer.

Mine was showing 17% when I got it at 26k. I went ahead and changed it. Will prob do it when counter says 25%. Which im guessing will be 20k miles.
Agree it is easy enough for piece of mind

We replace the 3.0's every 25k, and the 6.6's every 15k. I have an extra in all our vehicles, never want to be stranded due to a filter issue. I have only had to use the emergency filter once, that was a few years ago, filled up in Albuquerque, and the truck started running rough as I crossed into Arizona. Stopped at the painted caves rest area, released the WIF, a lot of water ran out, pulled the filter off, and it was black. I changed it at the rest area, made it home, where I changed it again. If you own a 3.0 and a newer 6.6, they both use the same fuel filter.
In the video he didn't mention it, but the GM Manual states to torque the cap to 25.5 NM. Go much more and you will eventually strip the threads on the cap.
