I know this was covered in another thread but I cant find it.

Anyway my fault is intermittent but today it started again.
The fuel gauge starts going up to full, then down to zero and the light goes on.
Then settles on 3/4 tank when there's less in.

Is this the float in the tank problem or the actual guage and do I need a dealer to fix it?

Thanks guys for any help

When I bought my 01 yuk the fuel gauge did the same thing. I was told it was the sender unit. I called the local dealership and was quoted $200+ for the sender unit. Turned out 2 weeks later the fuel pump was going out. Went to auto zone and got a new pump(the whole assembly-sender unit inlcuded) for $279. I thought it was strange the the dealership said the sender unit itself was $200+ but auto zone sold me the fuel pump with sender unit included for $279. Maybe the dealer was talking about the whole assembly but i specifically asked for the sender unit part only. I spent a total of $600+(this includes me buying the pump myself) having my mechanic install it for me. Not sure what the dealership would have charged. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention there is a code that tells you it is your sender unit if I'm not mistaking.
