we get between 100-300 inches of snow a year where I am and I've literally never seen any snow build up in the fuel filler area. Just sayin.

The snow build up around the filler seems to a problem with the Sierra /Silverado which do not have an inner gasket behind the filler door. However, moisture and dust can still make their way past the seal on Tahoes / Yukons. Never hurts to have a bit of extra "protection".

Colorado, Utah , Alaska, Washington , California or Oregon ??

Yeah I’ve never seen it but no skin off my back if someone wants to do it. I suppose if we are really worried a quick blow off of the area would do the trick before fueling up.

I spend a lot of time at ski areas in Vermont. We got over 250” last year. Light winter this winter but got ~60” in March alone.

I am happy to report that the 3" ones fit dandy. I tied a piece of twine to it so it's easier to get off though.
