Heya, My gas gauge shows F when its full, and E at half, and then proceeds to go past E till I lose the nerve to drive it further :D

Any idea how to fix this? Is the sending unit bad or a broken wire. What is an easy way to test this?

Thanks!

I would say a faulty sending unit. If it was a bad wire, it wouldn't work at all. Its also a possibility that the gauge cluster itself is bad. The most common faulty gauge in these trucks is the fuel.

Really the only fix is to try a new sending unit. Theres also probably some type of electrical resistance test that I don't know of too...

Where is the sending unit? Is it in the fuel pump assembly? I ask this because I'm having a somewhat similar problem with my gauge. My needle is fairly accurate, but it oscillates rapidly after it gets below 3/4 of a tank (almost like it's being fed AC power). It only vibrates worse at 1/2 a tank.
I tried removing and cleaning all the contacts on my cluster, but that did nothing to fix the problem. I'm worried my 3 year old fuel pump is going to fail again.

Anyone know the best place to have the gague/cluster repaired. My fuel needle does the vibrating thing and is only accurate to 1/2 tank. After that the needle jumps around all over the place. Thanks.
