Probably coming from your fuel pump. Its not hard to drop the tank, just be very careful, preferably with not much fuel in it. Disconnect all lines going to the tank and the two straps also. If you live where there's salt and rust, the straps may need to be cut off - so be prepared for that (new straps aren't much $$ either). lower the tank with a floor jack and a block of wood SLOWLY and remove from the vehicle.
The lock ring can easily get rusted up and be a complete pain in the ass to remove, but it will come. Remove that and pull the pump. I'm willing to bet that's where its coming from - sounds like the same issue I had on my 07.
In terms of time - definitely a few hours, probably more if you have never done this before and the lock ring is stubborn. Just don't puncture the tank trying to get the ring out!
Use a GM pump too. Its worth it.[/
Same thing happens to me. One of the fuel line elbows rushed out. Just replaced mine two months ago. Buy an ac delco pump and new lockring just in case. Try use all of your gas to make it lighter, and if you plan on cleaning the inside if debris has gotten inside. I used a YouTube video to help me out. There are a couple good ones on there that show you where and which hoses to disconnect. I think one was by A1auto. Also it is so much easier to remove the tank strap bolts if you have air tools. One last thing make sure you make sure the pump works before you bolt everything up and make sure it has at least 3 or 4 gallons of gas in it or it may not start. I put in a gallon and a half and it wouldn't start without putting more in. Good luck!
To All that are on the thread,
I am not sure if this is the correct way to use the forum, but act first and ask for forgiveness later, Right??
so I have learned a little more since yesterday, but not enough.
Q's: 1) how did (do) you know that the fuelpump is the leak? CEL?
BTW, my hoe is rusty underneath....
I get a CEL, if the tank is fuller...and now that it is under a 1/5 or 1/6 of a tank, it has reset...
I test drove it- above 1/4 tank, got CEL, but by the time I was at Autozone for a code read, the dam thing had reset... so I never did get the code
Point is-I don't know REALLY NO where the leak is originating from...
2) did you KNOW where the leak was before you dropped the tank?
3) Are these two motors interchangeable??
this is copied from the autozone website;
