Because they are set by their location to highways and population centers. And I'm talking about the Places like BP, Shell, and large chain Quickmart's and truckstops. Not a guy with 2 pumps in a 500 person town.... They have studied the demographics of each area and know where they can be higher and where they have to compete with 5 others within a half mile. This is known down to a science...Most stations are independently owned -- why wouldnt they set their own price? I often see same brand stations near each other with different prices.
