pretty sure you have to drop the tank from the bottom. No access from the inside of the truck. I have a fluttering gas gauge that can read empty right after a fill up, but so far the pump is hanging in there. the trip meter is your friend with this crap starts happening.

Alright guys just got the whip back from a local mechanic shop and its lookin good no noises no nothing its perfect the gauge is reading correctly, but one thing i noticed is that my muffler doesn't really rumble like it used to..or maybe its just me haha but i ended up buying the pump at a part store for $300 and had the tank dropped and the fuel pump swapped for $100..sure as hellll beats the dealers $1000

Fuel pump replacements are generally outrageously priced from dealers. Like said, the pumps can usually be had for $250 or less and with a couple hours of elbow grease, you're on the road again.

IIRC you have to drop the tank to change the sending unit so you might as well replace the pump if it's got over 80k miles. Of the dozens of GM trucks I've owned through the business, maybe 8-10 of them went over 130k on the factory fuel pump. I change the fuel pump in my personal vehicles every 100k miles just for preventative maintenance!
