I will definitely be dissecting the old engine. I'm betting it was the tool used to pull the fuel line. It was left in the fuel line since it just clipped in and guess which tool is unaccounted for and wasn't needed for reassembly!? It also came out of tool box #2 so I wasn't accustomed to ensuring its presence since it's not my tool. I think when the manifold was wiggled out it popped in the intake, which would be before I plugged the intake holes. Odd thing is is that when I pulled the manifold none of the valves were bent and nothing was visible. Talk about a heart stopping sound, the engine seizing with a clunk is the worst. I think a little part of me died with the engine and I'm guessing a repair would be as much as a swap. It's going on the wrecker tomorrow following a short memorial service. I miss my truck already and I'll be missing my bank account just as much.

Sorry to hear your engine pooped the bed, I was hopeful you were good and had a wiring/sensor issue.

I agree with the other guys, I would look for a 6.0 litre, it is a direct drop in, I think the only thing you need to do is the dealer reprogram the ECU. Is that correct boys?
You will have reliable power, no need to add bolt on expensive BS that accumulates to little-no power, plus is not OEM reliable. Just my two pennies worth.

I believe he'd have to get the computer reprogrammed for the 6.0 but he could get that done by BB and get the added benefit of a BB tune while he was at it!

I just purchased another 5.3 (complete assembly) for $945 with 44k miles and a buddy will do the install at his shop. Couldn't beat the price and mileage. This was an unexpected expense during the holidays so couldn't stretch the extra money for the 6.0

Thanks for the help and advice....looks like I'll be driving this model Tahoe for quite some time now.
