Hello I have a question. I've searched the forum and I didn't see anything on it. I havea 2012 Tahoe 5.3 with 3.08 gear ratio. I haul a 2017 Forest River wolf pup and a 16 foot enclosed with toys. I'm wanting to go to 3.42 gear ratio because I live in West kentucky. And I'm taking family to Yellowstone for the first time in June. Besides the normal ring and pinion labor. What has to be done to computer. Also since I can't find any definte answers what the heck is the tow rating for this stupid thing. I've read 5k with 3.08 then 3.42 is 7000 to 8600 with or without a trans cooler. Thanks

Your speedometer will be off if you don't do anything to the ECM or rather the TCM. The shop that swaps your gears may have the ability to reset the Speedo or a Diablo tuner can do it.

I'd def add a trans cooler if you don't have one. Cheap insurance to keep the trans alive.

I have a older edge tuner. I just haven't got into the programming side of it. Just the preset settings.

A 2WD Tahoe with a 3.08 gear has a maximum tow rating of 5,500 pounds. With a 3.42 Gear it is 6,000 pounds. With a 3.42 Gear and K5L HD Cooling it is 8,500 pounds according to your owner's manual. The same year brochure is similar and not as precise.

Welcome aboard Bruce!

Thanks and that' what I seen in owners manual. But these towing website say different. And dealerships don' know everything. In fact I just found a page saying there's no need to change programming or a tuner for gear ratio. The computer will change because of inputs from abs and wheel speed sensors. I miss non computers cars somewhat.

I didn't answer that part because I was going to look at my Tech2 when I go to pick up the kids from school. Probably not, but I'll look anyway and let you know in a couple of hours.

I drive part time for Uber in Nashville. And I can live with 16 plus mpg. And I don' think I need 3.73
