Did the axle seal. Make sure you do not rotate the carrier too much when you pull the pin to get at the c-clip. We moved it too much and spent hours spinning it round and round to get it lined up again to get that extra 1/16 of an inch to get the c-clip back in place.

A large pry bar makes pulling the old one out easy and a block of wood makes seating the new one easier. Remember to put the axle back in the same way so the splines match right up. The diff cover gasket can be reused without sealant if in good condition.

Thanks I've done a few of them over the years. I may cheat I found a axle for 500. I have to call tomorrow to make sure it's available still.

You mentioned changing the tranny filter. Do a complete flush of the tranny. It is very easy to do. Check out Youtube videos. But you will also have to drop the tranny pan to replace the filter. Just draining the pan will only change out about 6 qts. and the flush is about 12. I had the pan and filter done for $200 and the fluid was still brownish. Did the flush myself in about 15 minutes and used about 11 qts. Ended up with pretty pink fluid. If it doesn't have a tranny cooler, put the biggest one you can fit on it.
