Doesn’t look like they checked the front diff at inspection. Needed the impact to rattle the plug out. Whatever was in there was foamy. I floated all the foam out with some good gear lube. Going for a drive now. Will have to drop the bottom plug on that soon. Glad I checked!!!

I think the noise I have is the one outlined in a TSB I read. Don’t know the number tho. It comes and goes and is related to loading the T-case on deceleration or when there is little to no load on the driveline. It is present at low speeds up to about 35 mph but not constant. It sounds like gear whine at times. And perhaps chain noise at others. When I spin the front drive shaft I can feel or here the chain splashing fluid in the case. I don’t think it is a major problem. All the fluids are clean. I suspect the 4 wheel was used very little in this truck since it lived in MO for all but 20,000 miles or its 64,000.

Interesting read in the RAP shutting down with only the drivers door. I believe on my 2006 it will shut off with any door opening after the key is taking out.....

Does anyone think this might be an issue with the front diff bearings? I see in the carfax that some carrier bearings were replaced but I am unsure which axle...

rap has always been drivers door only, if you replaced the factory radio and did not use the proper adapter module that retains rap then you loose rap and power then shuts off from any door

Perhaps that was my issue before... I had the Rosen HU... I don't really remember what the RAP did with the factory Navi.

George, when we're driving around at low speed we hear a lot of noises from underneath, either the transfer case or front differential. I always suspect the latter. It settles into a rhythmic hum around 35-40 and then gets much quieter the faster we go. Or maybe it's the auto-volume on the stereo? LOL

Mine sounds similar to the noise a bad power steering pump makes. It comes in soft at low speeds and gets louder and higher in frequency as I increase speed. Its got a good hum from 30-40 and then just turns into a whine from there up. Didn’t go much over 50 with it.

I just dropped it off at the dealership to have them take a listen. I searched online till my head hurt last night but was inconclusive. If people would finish their threads with what the resolution was the Internet would be a better place....
