Pssst, I am the OP and yes I do realize about the different signal levels and the wiring schematics. I actually did quite a bit of research before starting this endeavor. And have also learned a ton along the way.

Hahaha! I guess I have to eat that one, huh?

Anyway, all that being said, you do have those resources available if need be.

Good luck.

:)

Thanks, I do have a ton of resources and got a bunch of help from some board bros. I'm all done with the install. Just trying to get this stupid module to work is the major hold up.

No, haven't done a write up yet. I still have my dash all apart, so I could probably take some pics.

This is definitely is a large undertaking and not to be taken lightly. But I'm sure pics would help out others who might be crazy enough to try this as well.

I've got a 791xv I'm thinking about doing myself. I'm afraid of it, and I'm "certified" and experienced.

those are easy! i remember doing the vse quantum. it had like 99 aux functions. my old impala had like 50 relays to control various electronics in the car. i could roll each window up/down, all up/down, pop each door open, remote start, a/c, head lights, air bags up/down. the kicker was, only certified vse dealer could even get a wiring diagram for the alarm and there was no internet forums back in the early 90's

well, after countless hours of researching, testing, soldering, crying;), praying:), and guessing, it works!!

For some reason I had a wire switched. I could have sworn I had it correct. But I guess that's what happens when you are doing this stuff on a saturday morning at 7am.

After doing this, I can say that it might have been worth it to have someone else install it. Although having a clear plan ahead of time would definitely help.

The only problem with having a shop do it, is the attention to detail. They might not take as much time wrapping up wires, concealing wires, etc. That in itself takes a lot of time.

Congrats on the install! I took the EZ way out and just had a shop install mine. Now I have to go back and have them fix things. Siren mounted with double sided tape and is already falling off, no hood pin trigger ect.

Now do both your remotes respond when you arm disarm the alarm? My old Viper 479? would chirp the other remote when a function key was pressed. This 5901 just changes the display if the non screen remote is used. The LCD works fine if its used to arm/disarm. I'm wondering if this is normal? Its a nice alarm don't get me wrong.

True, but think of it this way...if you keep all your notes (and good memory), you don't have to rely on someone else for any future add-on's or trouble shooting. Even though I doubt you will have any future issues; sounds like you had a succesfull install.

And as you mentioned, you most likely did do a cleaner, more stealth install than *most* shops.

Congrats!

Haha, thanks. I think with my notes I'm going to start selling them on eBay. I'll give you royalties of course. :D

But so far things are working good. Couldn't have done it without your help.

Guys, OmarR knows his stuff and is a great board bro.
