I'm doing my grill tomorrow. What was the sticking point in removing the stock grill? THX

There are eight tension clips that hold the grille in place. Once you remove the bolts (eight in all, 4 - 10mm and 4 - 7mm) you will have to use a flat head screwdriver to get back in there to release these clips. The problem is there is no room and zero visibility so you have to rely heavily on your sense of touch. Once you get the first one to release it gets easier. That part alone took me about 40 minutes, and the whole job only took about an hour.

probably better without the bug shield

I am not a bug sheild hater. For the record, I had a bug shield on my 07 Avalanche and now have one on the Hoe. I think mine looks good.

The reason why I don't like yours is because:
1. The shield covers the top part of the chrome trim of the grill.
2. The shield does not fully cover the length of the hood.

What brand grille is that? I couldn't tell by the small logo. Grille looks great! Do they make a matching lower valance insert?

AV2TA, I didn't think you were hating at all. The main reason I got that "Bug Shield" is because it did not cover the whole hood. (I didn't want it to cover my headlights) Very valid point about it covering the top of the chrome, I thought about that too. Thanks for the input man.

Victory is mine, yes they do sell a matching lower valance insert, here is the website. The quality is A-1

The grille looks amazing but I too am not a fan of the bug shield. That grille would look 100 times better than it already does without the shield. For one because as mentioned it covers the top portion of the grille. Secondly, I think the black stripe across the front from the black section of the grille. Again this is all just my opinion. I think the grille looks great as is but could look so much better.

This is exactly it. The [completed] shape of the grill is lost now. The shield detracts from the looks of your new grill.

Anyway, what's the small bug shield's function at this point? To protect 2" of paint on either side of the grill? I wouldn't trade the so-so looks of it for such little protection.
