Just bought this '01 Tahoe and noticed that one of the ground straps (circled in green) is missing and the one to the left of it (circled in red) has a lot of corrosion in it.

Where is the missing one supposed to go to from the firewall ?

Thanks !IMG_9220.jpg

Absolutely right. The left one bolts to the rear of engine block and if you look up and to the right from the stud you will see a stud on the underside of the hood while its raised.
Yep. Only on trucks with a hood light

Thanks for the answers....BTW, has anyone else noticed a heavy amount of green oxidation on the engine to body ground strap? Mine was stuffed full of it. Thanks all !

Welcome to the forum. Where you live can contribute to the amount of corrosion buildup. Do you know where the rig spent it's life?

Not on my California trucks. I'd replace it.

I'm the 3rd owner. The first two were in PA, aka The Rust Belt :(

Definitely contributes to the corrosion problem. I am in Eugene, Oregon. In the Willamette Valley. No salt on the roads. But when I ran shops locally I had vehicles come in that showed corrosion on engines and many components under the hood and under the vehicle and they came from the coast where there is salt in the air all the time. It was never as bad as salt on the roads and being in the Rust Belt but I could see it and dealt with it.

In the rust belt put alot grease on stuff . And some rigs are worse then others . I think has alot to do with washing the rigs . Because in Minnesota if you don't wash in winter you'll have rust bucket in no time flat . Just flushing off about once every 2 weeks makes a big difference on the rust factor.
