I just got an 03 suburban 70K miles. It seems to turn over more than the 01 tahoe I have on starting. No codes are shown on the computer. I checked the fuel pressure and it is very strange. When I hooked it up it showed 0 pressure, when I put the key to run, 0 pressure, while running the needle is bouncing wildly from 42-50 while idle. When the key is switched off, immediately back to 0. No gas squirted out when I removed the fuel pressure tester. Very strange. Any thoughts?

not yet, just got it. I will, but bizarre why the pressure would be 0 before startup and after shut down.

I've seen some pumps have the internal check valve go bad causing an instant drop to zero with the key off. They will usually build pressure when the key is turned on for its cycle before start (usually about two seconds) then when the pump ends its cycle back to zero it would go. Also as soon as the engine is shut off the pressure would drop again. Could be a bad regulator too. As much trouble as I've seen with Chevy pump assemblies I'd put my money on a bad pump. Is the pump really loud when running?

Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Mine did this for a long time and finally checked the fuel pressure and it did the same as yours. Bled down very quickly. Replaced fpr and no more hard starts.

Bad fuel pump. Happened to every yukon and Suburban we've owned around the 80-90K point.

Could be that too but usually fuel pumps just fail and won't start again. Fuel pressure regulator is only about 40-50 and easier to replace.

To the OP, can you hear your pump running?
