This is a really good question, as I am in the same boat rigtht now. My motor runs, but based on some of the noises it makes, I'm not sure for how long. Based on a lot of feedback from my mechanic and pro-chevy buddies, it seems like this is all circumstantial, and is of no major concern. That said, I dont want to be towing my camper somewhere and have it break down. Not something I want to deal with.....so my mentality is that 1500-2000 to have a partial rebuild with higher quality parts might lead me to a better place, and not have to spend 6k when the motor blows at some point.

Sent short block and heads to machine shop. Replaced bearings. Polished crank, installed cam and timing chain. Had heads rebuilt with new valve seats, seals and springs installed for under $1600.
