That's good to hear. I was thinking of just replacing the head gaskets as I'm only 50 bolts away but I'm going to hold off. I'm leaning towards it being the distributor gear as it's looking worn and one of the ears is broken off where the cap connects. Hoping it all works out after I've bolted it together. if not I will just remove the whole thing and get it rebuilt. The body on this Tahoe is in almost new condition so it's worth the money. Thanks for your help.

Scored a new Distributor with Cap and Rotor today for 140 bucks all in!!! Gear looks way better than the old one. I'm going to put it in tomorrow along with the new Radiator and top it all up and hopefully hear it start! Will post back.

After installation you may have to do a crank variation learn procedure. I forget the DTC # that pops up but basically the crank sensor and the cam sensor in the new distributor need to be in sync.

If it throws the code you'll need a scan tool to sync the dizzy and CKP. Basically the Tech 1 or Tech 2 takes control of the engine and revs it up incrementally to about 4500 RPM. When done the ECM learns the error between the crank and cam position sensors and stores a series of offset values to compensate for it. It only takes about 5 min to do but the dealer wants good $$$ for it. My MTS 3100 does it no problem so shop around or ask a friend if you get the code

Well I figured it would have to go in to set that Cam Retard +/-2 so I guess they would do that as well. I'm hoping for no code though!

The code is P1345. So much for timing lights, weights & springs, and vacuum advance.

I managed to get mine dropped in place first try no code. Take your time and dont get frustrated. I did mine on my 97 hoe only 15 min but i did one on a 2000 k2500 old body style and it took me an hr on that one with no scanner for both.

Well I can't believe it but it fired right up! Immediately threw the P1345 code. I tried twisting the distributor counter clockwise and it didn't help. I went to the Stealership and I found the oldest tech and he told me to twist it the other way and it should clear up that code. Well he was right! He was very happy to talk to someone doing this job because he said they don't get too many jobs like that anymore!! After I got it running it once again threw out the P0300!!! What the hell??? So to recap I've put in a new distributor, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, lower intake gaskets and upper plenum gaskets. Cleaned out all the gunk and fresh oil, New radiator and water pump as well. Now what??? Thanks for all the help guys.

Hold a dollar bill up to the exhaust pipe, it should push the bill outward. if it sucks the bill inward, you've got a burnt valve. There are other tests to confirm, usually my coworker will use a scope.

Otherwise recheck intake for leaks, and go back through ignition system. Can you feel the misfire?
