Howdy!

Did a quick search, but couldnt find exactly what i needed. Bought some patriot long tube headers to put on while dropping in the new 383. However, the new longtubes will come pretty close to the steering column boot. Should i be worried about this? Is there any kind of wrap i can use on the boot? I'd rather not wrap the headers as they're ceramic coated steel, and i've read that the wrap will "bake"? The coating off?

If anyone knows of a fix to this or can send me a link to the thread i missed, ill take any advice!

Thank you

See if you can make a makeshift heat shield of some sort that can be bolted in between the two.
I'd say wrap the headers with the fiberglass wrap but to some people it doesn't look good. I personally like it and it looks pretty good.
I'm looking to get new long tubes but I'm unsure as to what kind I should buy since I can't be heating and hammering them to fit perfectly. I really don't want to but I think shorties are the only way to go with my 99 hoe

So I've been thinking up going with some shorty headers on my 383. Currently have stock manifolds. Been reading alot about headers and the various wraps they make for them. One thing I read is that using wrap on the headers will void the manufacturers warranty. Some say its best to use header wrap on things you are trying to protect ie the steering column boot. Not sure about the accuracy of this info. Just thought I would pass it along. I would definitely read up on wrapping the headers...

I've wrapped a few headers, never once had a problem with them cracking. Typically the ceramic coating from the manufacturers doesn't hold up very long or at all. I've had good lucking using the DEI wrap w/ silicone spray on one of my cars and some of their gold wrap also. If it's a huge concern, see if any powder coating places near you offer cerakote thermal coating or just order a kit or two from Summit and do the the one guy said, make a heat shield and some of the gold wrap to help reflect the heat away from the boot.
