I've heard that the fuel filter for these are intank anyone know if that's accurate?

There is a strainer/sock in your tank on the fuel pump, but the filter should be inline mounted to your frame somewhere. Being a routine maintenance item, I wouldn't think that you would have to drop your tank to change the fuel filter.
