man, now ya'll got me thinking about whether or not it was a mistake to have my friend get Hi-Mileage Mobile Oil put in her car in hopes it'd be a bit better for her and make that POS last her a bit longer....
but SpeeDee saying it lasts a bit longer than normal oil sounded so good at the time, 'specially since she's always strapped for cash.

Just a thought, I have heard over the years that full or good qaulity syn oils will clean the sludge in a high mileage motor with a draw back... all that mess ends up in the oil pan and clogs the oil pump.

that being said, my hoe has 136,000 miles and I dont know if syn was ever used, so I'm a little hesitant to put my Mobile one in it.

anyone selling a 5.7 in the Delaware, Phila, New Jersey Area, OR does anyone wanna buy it for parts??? only issues are the motor (which is now blown) the driver seat is torn, and i think thats really it......

Damn.. it went from knocking to blown? That sucks man. Seriously, if you don't want to get rid of your truck, take it apart and try to figure out what's wrong. Like Hotrod said previously, you may be able to make repairs for a decent price. Or get a remanufactured engine. You can find decent prices on them if you search around.

I would have to think that used 5.7L Vortec motors would be a dime a dozen.I mean they were used in many vehicles, kinda like the GM 3.8L V6 or Ford 4.6L V8's.

Make some calls to some of your local and surrounding salvage yards and see what they have and for how much.Around here used motors normally go for around $300.

Bro,

I bet you have a galley plugged or something blocking the oil bc of that high mileage oil, it has additives that help plug seal leaks.

Get the following, if I recall the 5.7 holds 5 quarts:

Walmart
-4qt bottles of cheapo dino oil (use this to clean engine)
-5qt of cheapo dino oil (use this after)

Autozone
-Oil filter
-1 bottle of GUNK engine cleaner (I actually used 2 bottles, just be sure and take out about a quart of oil for each bottle bc you don't want more than 5 or 5 1/2 quarts of fluid total .....SO: 5quarts = 3qts dino + 2bottles of Gunk)

The GUNK engine flush is kerosense iirc, which is basically a stronger version of what most people do with Seafoam treatments. If you can afford it, I would add a bottle or 2 of Seafoam with the 2nd oil change to thoroughly rid yourself of that high mileage oil garbage.

With the engine cool
1) drain the high mileage oil out
2) reinstall drain plug
3) add the Gunk engine cleaner
4) add 3 or 4 quarts of dino oil depending on how many bottles of gunk
5) Let the engine run for 3mins
6) rev rmps up to 1500 a few times
7) after 7-10mins, turn engine off
8) drop oil again
9) add fresh dino oil
10) drive
