I lurk around here a bit. I have got some great information from this forum. So thank you all for sharing your experiences. On a recent trip someone broke my passenger outside mirror on my 2009 Yukon XL SLT. So that started this whole project. The biggest one yet on this vehicle. So please bear with me as I explain everything. Also please make corrections to anything I write, I am not very good at the terminology used. So here goes...
What I am trying to do?
What I have access to?
How I would like it to work?
I am upgrading from DL8 to DL3. The DL3 I got, have no puddle lamps. But it does have the white connector with six wires. I know that Light Blue and Yellow are the ones for folding motor.
{ On a side note... rather than changing and reprogramming the Window Switch modules, I am installing timed realys that will Fold And Unfold the Mirrors. }
The way I am thinking to wire this up is as follows:
Tap into dome light wire. If I understand correctly, there is a brown wire in the X14 Junction Box area. I will run this wire to Relay #1 just to charge or discharge the relay. The relay will then power (from X14 connector) all interior add on lighting, including foot well and door panels. Also it will run power to Relay 2. I am hoping to tap into ‘Ignition On’ wire somewhere that will charge or discharge Relay #2. This relay will be Always Closed (NC) until charged, at which time it will Open (NO) to stop power going to Outside lights.
OR ...
Relay 2 could be charged and discharged with the Approach and Exit Lighting. Then the exterior Lights will only come on when the Approach and Exit Lights come on.
I hope everything is clear until this point.
My questions:
1. Where is the best place to tap into Ignition on power? I prefer not to open the Steering Column. Is there any wire inside the truck that gets charged when the truck is started? Or would I have to tap in to II position of the key. OR... where is best place to tap into the Appraoch and Exit Circuit.
2. Is there power in the door (hopefully in the white connector) that I can tap into?
3. What is the best place to run the wire to the outside without drilling? I am hoping to utilize a predrilled hole to run the wire. I would prefer not to go thru the Firewall.
4. For the interior lighting, since I am running thru a relay, is there a way for it to have a “Diming to OFF” effect? Not really important.
Any help will greatly be appreciated.
What I am trying to do?
1. Add LED lighting to the foot well area both in the front and rear seats.
2. Add LED lighting under the running boards and rear bumper.
3. Add LED lighting to each door panel, so it lights up when the door is open.

What I have access to?
1. The Driver Side knee panel and fuse panels are open.
2. The Junction Box in the Driver Side Foot Well is open.
3. The door Panels are taken off.
4. Side view mirrors are completely disassembled for Fold Motor Repair. So the wires are sticking out of the little hole in the door.

How I would like it to work?
1. The interior lighting will come on with the dome lighting. I would prefer that the foot well does not light up when the truck is on. So when I am driving and I turn on the dome light only the dome light comes on. This is only a preference. If it cannot be accomplished I am ok with it.
2. Door panel lights only come on when the door is opened. They should stay turned off if the door is closed. Again this is a preference. I can mount the light at the bottom of the panel so it is not a distraction.
3. Lights under the running boards should only come on when the truck is unlocked and when I turn off the car (Perhaps use it with Aproach and Exit Lighting). They should always stay off if the truck is on. So while I am driving they should never come on.
