When I do a search for 323-1637 at Amazon it comes up for $283.00 AC Delco.
It also comes up with the GM number of 89017844

Yea that’s the exact part.

I just can’t get past paying that much for a Re man part. You really think it’s that much better than an aftermarket starter?

Rockauto has a few different ACDelco models that will fit my truck. Looking over the specs they are all very close to the OE model. I’m wondering if it matters. They also show that most people buy the top 3 aftermarket ones.

Lots of times the aftermarket ones can be cheaper and that is what drives their purchase. I like to spend more and get new instead of reman because then there is no core charge. To me, new AC elco is something I trust. When I look your starter up by the year, make and model and engine for your rig the Amazon NEW AC Delco is #3371033 for $183.02. For the life of me I cannot figure out why a reman unit can be more expensive.

I know that’s what gets Me. If it was brand new no problem. But to charge that much more for a reman just doesn’t make sense. The core charge doesn’t bother me so much. From a reliability standpoint do you think the AC delco reman is a good choice? Any of them?

Asking me is always going to get an answer that I prefer AC Delco parts....period. I don't always have the choice of that in a pinch but that is what I prefer. IMO, I would get the one new one from Amazon, if you are a member, and call it a day. I don't know how quick you need to do it though. Plus, if you do bolt in a new starter and you have damaged teeth on the flex plate, that can damage the starter drive of the new starter. Remember, we are recommending the starter replacement and the flex plate inspection because of the likelihood of a problem of the remote start. There still may be a problem there even with a new starter. I would do the basics....starter replacement, inspect flywheel and by all means, check for any loose or dirty or damaged connections between the battery, cables, ground and starter.

I just placed the order will arrive Thursday. The truck starts fine with the key. Haven’t tried again with the remote starter.

Your 100% right. The AC Delco 337-1033 is one of the “alternate” part numbers that fits My truck.

Called the dealer today and got a much more helpful and knowledgeable sales guy.

What he told me is the original starter for my truck is # 323-1637. And all that’s available is the reman.

What he’s saying is those are made with the same level of internal parts that came off the assembly line when my truck was first built.

The pro line is made with slightly cheaper materials - copper etc.

The AC Delco pro line 337-1033 is the exact part he would offer me if I came in to the dealer. It’s new and has a lower price point than the original reman.

In fact it’s the only non reman option available to me.

Sounds like a great starter at a less expensive price. Plus, no core charge to deal with sending back for.

I also am a fan of OEM components, "CHINA CRAP" is infiltrating our automotive industry to the extent of affecting reliability, IMO. but ill stfu about that and say hopefully the starter will get you down the road and eliminate the current issue. Dont remote start? it may be the loss of a cool function but it is absolutely unnecessary. at 204k miles it is allready a success story so pamper it and see if you can hit the 250k milestone with pride.
