I have a busted motor mount on the drivers side. I have searched this forum and over the net but I am not having much luck finding someone who has done this repair. Ive got an 07 LTZ 4WD, 5.3l. To start how many mounts are there, 2? I was trying to find a set of heavy duty mounts but I have not been able to locate any over the net, I hate to buy another GM set that I may have a problem with in the future.

Anyone have any step by step instructions for me?

Energy suspension makes the Inserts to go in your oem brackets.

You will need to remove exhaust manifolds to get to them.
And yes there are 2 mounts, do both if you go Energy suspension, if OEm rubber, just the busted will be fine.

DO NOT LIFT THE ENGINE VIA THE OIL PAN! Unless you want to go through the 7 rings of hell to replace one mount!
Find, beg, borrow a lift and do it right.

As search revealed this as one of the few threads about motor mounts. My drivers side one is also bad, so I was thinking of having both done. Although I've done a lot of repairs over the years, I haven't done motor mounts. I'm probably going to pay a mechanic to do it, so how big a job is it?

Also if I buy just the inserts, will that make it a bigger job rather than replacing the whole brackets?

I had the pleasure of doing one of these jobs recently on an 07 Denali. I found the easiest way for me was to drop the front axle assembly and lift the motor with a screw jack on the front "lift block" wasnt an easy job as clearance was tight with the manifold on, but doable. Doing it on the ground is next to impossible. And I agree that you should do anything possible to get it on a lift. Also, make sure to put that annoying heat shield back, or you'll be doing the job again shortly.

I asked a mechanic about just doing the inserts and he said it would be extra labor, so why even bother. Basically he would not do it(having nothing to do with profiting on the parts as I would be supplying either the entire mount or just the inserts.
So far I have been driving with it as is with no noticeable problems unless I get on it. If I do that, the engine lifts on the drivers side for a moment and plops back down. Still I am going to need to get it fixed sooner than later as I do not like the idea of what may happen if the other one gives out also.
