hmmm... I pulled one off an 08 Denali XL and 08 Escalade ESV and they were 3 piece. Maybe that's just the longer models, dunno?

That is a good question.... not sure about the XL/Burbs/ESV's...

No difference. Technically speaking, they are the exact same, and I would have had the same problem mounting those end caps on the underside of a boat or top of a water tower. The base and the end cap were what were fighting each other, and both were off the 00-06 Esky.

Ahh I see what Felix is saying, but my problem didn't arise when the rack was on the Esky. I am thinking the back of our roofs may be a little flatter? As in, the one piece rubbers for the 07+ racks are a hair longer. But since I had the old one, it pushed up on the gentle curve towards the rear just a little?

Hmm I am not sure about that honestly don't remember... all i remember was that it was a PAIN IN THE ASS to get the end caps to seat properly in there... About to go through it again with my Esky EXT on Avy roof rack
