Hey guys, I just acquired a 2006 Yukon 1500 2WD and... It has been lowered.

The Yukon looks good, but the ride quality is not quite there. It bounces a lot...

At first I was thinking, It needs new shocks... I would like to get the best road shocks I can afford. Suggestions welcome!

Now, I kind of want to look at the whole set up, before I proceed with new shocks... I know some people can do awful things to their rides thinking, "It will look cool".

Is there a place to look up my vehicle Vin Number to see if it came with auto leveling suspension? I think it has the tow package...

Thanks in advance!

As far as being lowered... do you know how? What setup? If they cut the springs or heated them up in the rear, it'll ride bad. If you're hitting bump stops, it'll ride bad. Up front if they have just de-cranked the keys, it'll ride bad. Did they do aftermarket spindles and/or aftermarket keys?

Can you give us a pic of your truck so we can see how low it is?

With factory air ride, there will be a compressor on the drivers side rear underneath the vehicle and there will be little air lines going to the rear shocks. the front shocks will have wiring that plugs in to the top of them... if the shocks are stock

Thanks, I will take tires off and snap some photos... I will look for air Ride compressor. and aftermarket torsion bar keys.

I am going with the information given to me by seller... He handed me the stock shocks and springs that were cut off...

The Yukon is also sitting on 265/70R18 which fill up the fender wheels... I will take some pictures...

If the guy said it was lowered, but rides horribly n bounces, probably not done with best components. Like Nathan said, plenty of ways to lower these, but they can each ride and feel different. Best bet is to get under, take a look, snap some pics, and see what previous owner did or used. Keys can be hard to tell, but if no drop spindles or arms, then most likely just keys were done and de cranked, which ride horrible alone. Rear springs can also be hard to identify unless marked. But removing them will give an idea if what brand, if cut ect.. hopefully. Can always try n call previous owner and ask him what he used and did.

Here it is...

101_2393_zps2e4608e0.gif

And I took a look under... And it's bad!!!

The rear seems to have aftermarket springs and Nitro Drop shocks...

101_2394_zps4778e0ce.gif

That seems to be all the suspension travel... 1-3/4 inches...

101_2395_zps1a6c774d.gif

The Front looks scary... Is that the bump stop all the way to the frame???

101_2396_zpsda730693.gif

That shows all the travel available 1-1/4 inch

101_2397_zps3ae02a67.gif

---------- Post added at 10:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 PM ----------

I would assume all the adjustment on Torsion Bars was backed out...

NOW WHAT TO DO....

I am thinking going back to stock height... Get a set of Sport Springs on the rear and get some good shocks...

I can not afford racing adjustable shocks... But what is better than Stock???

Any recommendations on products or Online vendors???

Thanks, Luis

It looks like just keys in front, so stock keys would lift it back up. However, I would just adjust the front up a little bit and it will ride a little better.

In the rear there's not too much you can do to go back up without new springs.

However, you could swap out all 4 shocks for Bilstien shocks and that would improve the ride a bunch. You also need rear shock extenders so the shocks sit/travel/compress at the normal levels/range

Here's my NBS Esky lowered (lower than yours) and rode like a dream (because of having the right parts)

So the Yukon came with codes:

G65 = Level Control Manual, Self-Adjusting
ZW7 = Chassis Package Premium Smooth Ride

Stock shocks are $468.00 each...

I read that If I am going with aftermarket shocks I should go with heavy duty Springs which are $68.oo from Moog on ebay...

I was thinking of going with Rancho XL with 9 setting rebound adjustable shocks...

I hear good tings of Bilstein 4600 series too...

that means you had autoride from the factory.

It "could" be the springs, but I bet it's the shocks. If you really want lowering springs, I would go with Belltech. Moogs (I think) are stock replacement springs so you could also just find some cheap OEM takeoffs from someone on here or Craigslist or eBay.

I would replace them with 5100 series Bilsteins.

I would say, it depends on what you want yo do, and which direction you want to go...
In front, it should ride on the front jounce stops. With these torsion bar front ends, acts as a second "spring", and turning keys up some will improve the ride quality.. Rear, freetravel mod, i.e. cutting/removing rear bump stop bracket, will give more travel.
Shocks on all 4 will definitely help alot. Those shocks I've heard ride pretty bad.
