How can you tell shocks are 'worn' or bad?

With 140k miles and no shock change yours have been worn out at least two fold.

Yes they are very bad. I bet if you changed them you will think your in a different Yukon. Get some Bilstein HDs from www.ajusa.com

I agree. Good shocks don't last that long; crappy ones even less. The 2000 I just picked up has the original Bilsteins with over 150K. I'm waiting on a fresh set from AJ to replace them with...didn't hesitate on that decision..

thank you guys. cheapest place to find some? should i do it after i lower back end to level out? 2 in lowering springs or does it matter?

I'm no shock expert but most manufacturers recommend changing them every 50K.

Depends on you're driving really, but 50k is a good rule of thumb. Which means I am just around the corner on a front shock change as well :)

Shouldn't matter really - but check with Norcal SS, he is the resident expert on lowering :)

You can do it before/after you lower. Just make sure to get shock extenders to gain some ride quality.
www.ajusa.com is the best place to find those cheap but Googling a part number always helps.
