I have a 2000 Silverado that I'm getting a head and cam 6.0 so I'll have a low mileage 5.3. I will at some point swap the motor in my Tahoe. I was considering the HT383 but I think a 5.3 with supporting mods and a cam would make 383 like power although a little higher in the rpm. But it should get better economy than a 383. Is it a straight forward swap in a 4wd Tahoe? Thanks

I have seen a lot of people do this swap especially over on fullsizechevy.com and maybe even a few on this site . I wouldn't consider it to be "straight forward" as there is a lot of wiring needed and everything is completely different. With that said, many people have done it before so there should be ample information out there for the swap to be done. I say do it! :waytogo:

I've been reading about it all day. It seems like there are places to get the wiring harness to plug it in I think. I'm waiting to hear back from them, I called and left them a message.

If you can get that you'll be ahead of the game as far as wiring goes :waytogo:

According to them they make the wiring harness for 650 and I'll need a newer 01 ecu and swap to the newer accessory drive. I think with a tuned ecu, cam, headers, and exhaust it'll make much more power than the 350 in it now, comparable power to a 383 and get much better economy. And since I'll have the 5.3 from my truck it'll be much cheaper than buying the ht383.

I wouldnt consider this a day swap, maybe a weekend swap.
You can swing over to ls1tech or ls1truck and find what parts are needed, especially a harness. I have read about a quite a few different companies that make them.
This is what I'll be doing with my aluminum 5.3 in not so close future, hah.
