I guess I am just an old-school control freak, who likes to be the one to decide when my engine shuts off.
I’ll tell you what- the a/c (and heater?) pretty much quits when the engine shuts off while you’re sitting at a light or wherever in traffic. At least in my daughters ‘18 Cruze it does. I was with her last summer, it was 95 outside and every time the engine shut off the air blowing out wasn’t cold anymore, more lukewarm. It sucked. I do not like it.

I wouldn't sweat too ******* that one. Start/stop systems usually have meatier starters. S/S systems have been around for a bit now and we haven't exactly had a major uptick in starter failures
Some of them dont actually have a starter.. Like the NBS Hybrid.

Bad implementation IMO

I've driven vehicles that are on both sides of the spectrum. Some are horrid. Others either have a large enough accumulator system (or something?) that it keeps going or just keep the engine on when a/c is on. Never really made a mental list of who does what well. Just... There's variance.

tbh I'm surprised we still have belt driven a/c compressors at this point as opposed to electric units but that's a different can of worms altogether

Now heres the real question. That little metal heat shield that goes on top of the starter, below the exhaust manifold.

How many of you reinstalled it???

I got mine on. It wasn't bad. Fishing the starter into place is much harder, just install the shield first then fish it in. I believe it is a heat shield to protect the solenoid from the heat coming from the heads.

Mine fell off as I was maneuvering the starter into position. I never removed it the starter completely, just tucked it up out of the way. I thought I could install the shield after I finished installing the trans. I was wrong lol.

Original lasted 18 years and just under 200k miles. Had to replace it two weeks ago. I went with a new Ultima Select from the local O'Reilly's, because it was after 4PM on a Saturday and I had to get to work Sunday. It probably won't last as long, but had no real choice.
