When I first bought my truck I did an oil change and I put in Royal Purple Full Synthetic Oil.
I'm coming up on 3 months and was wondering how often everyone else with Sythetic Oil changes it.

I also use royal purple and change at 5K even though they say you can go 10-12k. i dont trust any oil to go that long.

You should be able to go at least 10K with full synthetic.

I have precribed to this on my wifes Audi allroad 4.2 V8. Oil looks great even after 10K. However, I do the filter at 5K. Easy on this vehicle cuz it is top mounted.

Its right under the 4-ring cowling.

I am now going 5k miles or 1 year. Don't really put a lot of miles on the truck ('00 Tahoe LT, 5.3L). Use Purolator Pure 1 filters.

From a lot of research I've done, you could probably go 10K+ with good syn and good filter, but I still won't go more than 1 year or 5K miles, old habits die hard.

If you've not checked out these sites, give them a look. Oil Filter study and Oil Life study (done on an LS-1 engine). Interesting info.

A buddy of mine that I work with is a amsoil dealer and I was reading on there synthetic oil. You can run it for 25,000 miles with there filter, he has 11000 miles on his last oil change and the oil still looks like new. I got a price quote and it was about 65 bucks for the oil and the filter.
